Last week, the AMD has revealed more details about the new version of its frame boosting technology for gamesFidelityFX Super Resolution — popularly known as FSR 3.0. The announcement took place during the annual Gamescom fair, also bringing a premiere preview for this September. Check out the details below!
To begin, the main differentiator of FSR 3.0 is the implementation of frame generationrepresents performance gains two or three times greater. Dispensing with specialized hardware or the use of Artificial Intelligence, the technology will work on any video card, and even on consoles. The first two games to receive the new feature will be The prophesied e Immortals of Aveum, with updates expected in the coming weeks.
FSR 3 for all games and players
While it listed two recent games as showcases for the technology, AMD has confirmed that Fluid Motion Frames will also work in all DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 based games, through the Adrenaline Hypr RX software. This way, thousands of old titles will receive significant performance gains, in addition to ensuring a little more longevity for older video cards.
To demonstrate the power of the resource, the presentation included a short excerpt from the upcoming Lies of P running at 4K resolution, with the best graphics settings, on a Radeon RX 7800 XT. With the Hypr RX and Fluid Motion Frames turned on, the title jumped from an average of 73 FPS to 178 FPS — without noticeable deterioration in quality.
A Adrenaline Hypr RX update will arrive in the first quarter of 2024. Similarly, but without a preview yet, AMD confirmed that it is also working on an extension for the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine, which will allow FSR 3 to be expanded to even more games.

In contrast, it is worth noting that the main workaround, Nvidia’s DLSS 3, requires direct implementation in games. Thus, its implementation is up to developers and their production flow — something with much lower compatibility than AMD technology.
What has changed in FSR 3?
Under the hood, The main change in FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 is the ability to generate frames, through an improved version of Fluid Motion Frames and the use of temporal data in games — such as motion vectors. A combination guarantees more performance by “avoiding stress” on the system in situations such as 4K gaming and Ray Tracing or when the frame rate is limited by the CPU.
In addition, there is also Native Anti-Aliasing (NAA) which allows players to utilize FSR 3’s anti-aliasing without another resolution rescaling feature. The alternative has a small performance cost, but can deliver a better image qualityespecially when the solution implemented in the game leaves something to be desired.
Naturally, it is possible to combine NAA with frame generation to achieve gains in frame rates; see below!

Even lower latency
Although FSR 3 already includes improvements to reduce in-game input latency, it is possible to combine all its benefits with the resource Anti-Lag+, which will be implemented in a future AMD driver update. This new feature will come to Radeon RX 7000 family cards — gamers with a Radeon RX 6000 or smaller will be able to use the Anti-Lag feature, compatible with all games.
A AMD highlights that This solution is just a performance bonus for enthusiasts who already use a setup from the Red Team. According to the company, FSR 3’s improvements in latency will alleviate any concerns when playing.
Which games will have initial support for FSR 3?
To date, AMD has confirmed a list of games with support for FidelityFX Super Resolution 3; see which ones:
- Frontiers of Pandora (Ubisoft)
- Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red)
- Space Marine 2 (Focus Home Interactive)
- Frostpunk 2 (11 bit studios)
- The Alters (11 bit studios)
- Squad (Offworld Industries)
- Starship Troopers: Extermination (Offworld Industries)
- Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science)
- Crimson Desert (Pearl Abyss)
- Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Sega)
- Immortals of Aveum (Electronic Arts)
- The prophesied (Square Enix)
As the technology is open source and will be compatible with games featuring DirectX 11 or 12, the tendency is for the list of titles with the solution to increase considerably soon after launch.
Which GPUs will be able to use FSR 3?
AMD has already released the compatibility list for FidelityFX Super Resolution 3. While using the “basic” version of FSR 3 works on simpler and older GPUs, the frame generation tool requires more powerful hardware.
