Community discusses whether Riot should increase the number of bans

At the beginning of LoL, back in the game’s first season, Ranked Queues only had two bans per team, and just one player which banned. Time passed, and then they began to have three bans and further went to five bansbeing one ban for each player, as he is today. This made the community reflect on LoL’s ban system.

Community discusses whether Riot should increase the number of bans

The discussion arose on Reddit, and according to the user who created the debate, increasing bans would be one of the best ways to balance the game. Check out the post:

I think over time, and with more and more champions, the best thing Riot could do would be to increase bans. It doesn’t even have to be two per player, but I think a team ban would be cool. There are many champions that people don’t want to play against, and some that are often agreed upon by the team.

And just below, a user remembers a statement from Riot in the first season of the game.

Check out this announcement from season 1: In the long term, when we develop competitive seasons, our first season will include all champions, but with the addition of new seasons we intend to launch the concept of “season champions”. Which means that, to play with all the champions, you have to play casually and in competitive play you will have a reduced cycle of possible champions. This will balance the champions’ strategies and strength and improve the players’ learning curve.

Another user said that he already made this request for more bans to Riot, but didn’t hear what he wanted:

I asked about more bans during the last AMA (Ask Me Anything), and they basically said it wouldn’t happen.

A fan comments on his relationship with the bans and comments that he would like the change:

When I don’t ban Yone, I remember why and why I should always ban, but when I ban I also leave Evellyn open and when she is played well, it’s a nightmare. Two bans would be great!

A user commented something that is terrible about the ban system – and which I very much agree with:

In addition to what is being debated, duplicate bans are TERRIBLE. The feeling is of having literally thrown away a ban. The only solution to this, in my opinion, would be for us to have the same ban system as the competitive one – which would make the bans longer, but honestly I prefer it.

And for you, could Riot giving more bans be a solution? I’m a big fan of the idea of banning the team, based on selection percentage, and not repeating bans. I think this would reduce the amount of outlier options and reward those who play more champions!
