Does a gun-shaped mouse make a difference in FPS games? See Ragnok 2 review

Na Era two eSports, Shooting games are commonly associated with competitive and first-person titlesas Valuing, CS2 e Rainbow Six Siege – But it was not always so. Before the PC became such an accessible platform, adopting the mouse and keyboard as standard inputs, older consoles experimented with all sorts of configurations to adapt the aiming and shooting experience on screens.

During the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 generations, GunCons were one of the more sophisticated options, bringing the fun of arcades home. Later, the Nintendo Wii innovated with the Wii Remote, while Xbox introduced the world to Kinect — technology that required no type of control. However, even with the standardization of mice, it is still possible to experience a different level of immersion in this generation of games.

It is precisely in this context that Ragnok 2 appears, a very different mouse that promises more immersion in shooting games. Unusual, the model adapts the idea of GunCon in a very practical way, but maintains the portability of a traditional mouse. We received the model and tested it for a month, during gaming sessions. Check out the full analysis below!

Ragnok 2 has an ergonomic but unique design

Without any ceremonies, the Ragnok 2 shows its purpose right away, with a design inspired by a gun grip. At first, the decision may displease players who prefer something more discreet or even non-simulacrum — but it not only makes sense, it works very well. With two color options, the black version being more “realistic”, the mouse stands out from traditional ergonomic modelsgenerally intended for offices, and maintains its identity focused on games.

Constructed from a tough but still lightweight plastic, the Ragnok 2 has five buttons, one of which is interchangeable for a metal trigger. Already the switches are mechanical, blue type, and have a very high and responsive click. However, the main buttons — in the shape of a trigger — are not so firm, having a certain “shake”, in addition to having a long travel distance to activate the input. This detail is not necessarily a problem, depending on the requirements of each user.

Complementing, there is a plastic base that fits into the bottom of the mouse and acts as a support, very welcome, to hand. This component is optional for the experience, but it makes it much more comfortable, avoiding friction with the mousepad. Its format, like Ragnok 2 itself, is designed exclusively for right-handed people — and, at least so far, there is no version for left-handed people. However, it is still possible to use it with the left hand, in the “Brazilian way”, even though the functionality of a button and the Scroll is lost.

In terms of resources, Ragnok 2 features a vibration system with each click. While it doesn’t offer much levels of precision or pressure, the addition is quite fun when playing and guarantees some immersion. This system can be turned on and off manually using latches on the base of the mouse. On the other hand, for users who value accuracy, there are fine adjustments that can be made in the official software, found on the mouse website. There, you can configure macros, DPI stages and the desired polling rate.

Dealing with its components, the Ragnok 2 does not disappoint and features a competent PAW 3335 sensorwith 40g of acceleration, with sensitivity of up to 16,000 DPI and 1000 MHz polling rate. Check out more details below!

  • Sensitivity: 16,000 DP (Adjustable);
  • Sensor: Bluetooth, PAW 3335;
  • Cabo: USB-C, 1,5 m;
  • Battery: 600mAh, autonomy of 56 hours;
  • Size: 107 mm x 63 mm × 30 mm;
  • Weight: 110g;
  • Material: ABS, metal.

Ragnok 2 in games and everyday life

Following its advertising recommendation, I tested the Ragnok 2 in multiple shooter games — from Valuinga Fortnite, CS2 and even some shooters of PS2. I don’t care about two competitive titles, the mouse behaved well, showing no choking of any kind and following the rapid movements. Naturally, its use required a certain adaptation curveespecially to correct the urge to use the model in “three dimensions”, just like a GunCon.

To eliminate any biases due to my possible incompetence, I chose to test the mouse with one of my favorite PlayStation 2 games, Vampire Night. In the case of a rail shooter, the title was perfect to illustrate a use case where Ragnok 2 could shine without the pressure of competitiveness. In these sessions, the vibration contributed to immersion and emulated the feeling of an arcade very well.

In both cases, It is undeniable that the neutral grip relieves part of the tension that would be directed to the wrist, in the case of the traditional and pronated grip. This difference, although small, can help the physical health of players during long gaming sessions — in particular, those who suffer, for example, from tendonitis and other localized pain. Although, the benefit will arrive after an inevitable motor adaptationin order to avoid other types of twisting when using the Ragnok 2.

Speaking of everyday use, the Ragnok 2 no longer performs so well, despite its apparently favorable ergonomics. Even with a certain dominance, I felt that the long travel distance before activating the click makes it very difficult for normal navigation. Tasks such as selecting texts and adjusting bars, in addition to using the scroll, also become more exhausting than necessary — and discourage their daily adoption. Nonetheless, I emphasize that this use case is not part of the model proposal and, therefore, this is not a demerit to its design.

Is Ragnok 2 good? It is worth it?

With competent specifications, solid construction, and improved ergonomics, Ragnok 2 is a great alternative for players looking for greater immersion or comfort. It should be noted that its adaptation curve may not be initially receptive to all users, but it is part of the experience of any mouse. Within its proposal, the model fulfills what it promises and works without complicationsor the need to install extra software.

When it comes to price, the Ragnok 2 is not that demanding, selling for R$500 — however, it can now be found on promotions for R$400 or less. As it does not have direct competitors — that is, ergonomic and gaming mice simultaneously —, the model positions itself well in the market and should not be heavy on the pocket. After all, it is a wireless mouse with gamer specifications and features, a set that doesn’t usually come cheap in Brazil.

Possibly, the closest and most common alternative is the Logitech MX Vertical, which can be found for a similar price of R$500 — or in promotional R$ 400. However, there are notable differences in specifications, such as sensitivity, in which this model supports resolutions of only 4,000 DPI.

MX mouseLogitech MX Vertical is an alternative to the Ragnok 2, but it loses in specifications for the same price.

Thus, It’s safe to say that Ragnok 2 is worth it and should please FPS fans, both competitive and casual.. Although it has areas for improvement, such as the “long activation” triggers, the model offers a respectable set of technical specifications for a very competitive price.
